Description
With the rapid uptake of cloud computing, ‘Software as a service (“SaaS”)’ is a means of licensing the right to access and use software on a subscription basis whereby the software remains on the third-party provider’s server, rather than being delivered to or downloaded by the Subscriber/user as would be the case under traditional licensing. The software (also called ‘web-based’ software) is typically made available to the subscriber /user via a web browser ‘on demand’ as and when needed by the subscriber.
SaaS has become a common delivery method for many business applications, including many ‘back office’ functions such as accounting, payroll, HR (human resources), CRM (customer relationship management), ERP (enterprise resource planning) and service desk management.
