Juma is a senior associate in the Data and Technology team at the London office of Ropes & Gray LLP, a Boston-headquartered white-shoe law firm. He trained at what is now known as CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP (CMS), Europe’s largest law firm, and was with that firm for over 9 years (part of which he spent seconded to its Brussels office).
Juma has a broad commercial/technology practice, advising clients on technology and outsourcing, privacy, e-commerce, and IP-related matters. He acts for number of household names, disrupters, creatives and start-ups at various stage of growth across the technology, media, retail and life sciences sectors.
Juma has particular experience supporting clients with commercial contracts and compliance aspects of international digital transformation projects, including innovative product launches and roll-outs, app development and licensing, cloud-based outsourcing arrangements and technology transactions. He also regularly advises on the laws relating to the use, protection and exploitation of data, particularly in the context of e-commerce and digital platforms, including European GDPR compliance, security breaches, adtech and issues surrounding data commercialisation. In addition to his technology and data work, he also advises clients on general commercial matters, such as distribution, licensing, franchising and e-commerce law.
Publications: Juma has written extensively on the topics of technology, e-commerce, app development and data privacy for various journals and publications, including IAPP, Financier Worldwide and E-Commerce Law.
