Juma Weeks, Esq. (LL.B)
Juma Weeks is a senior associate in the Technology and Media team at CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP (CMS) in London. He trained at Nabarro LLP prior to its merger with CMS in May 2017 and has been with the firm for over 8 years (part of which he spent seconded to its Brussels office).
Juma has a broad commercial/technology practice, advising clients on data protection and privacy, e-commerce, technology outsourcing and IP-related matters. He acts for number of household names and start-ups at various stage of growth across the technology, finance, retail, real estate and healthcare sectors.
Juma has experience dealing with a wide range of complex technology-related matters, including the development and licensing of software, cyber security, assignment of IP rights in software, drafting and negotiating cloud-based outsourcing agreements and advising on issues arising in technology transactions and M&A. He has a particular strength advising on laws relating to the use, protection and exploitation of data and advises regularly on all aspects of data privacy from European GDPR compliance projects to security breaches and issues surrounding big data and data commercialisation. He has an interest in new and developing technologies including, artificial intelligence, internet of things and big data.
Publications: Juma Weeks has written extensively on the topics of technology, e-commerce, app development and data privacy. Many of his articles and blogs can be found on the CMS Law-Now website. In addition, he has written on the subject of technology for various journals and publications, including Financier Worldwide and E-Commerce Law and is the current European editor for one of the leading international practitioner text books on e-commerce, tech and internet law, “International Computer and Internet Contracts and Law” by M-T. Michele Rennie.
